We would like to extend a warm welcome to Robin Monico who has recently become a member of the WH Allen Engineering Association and kindly volunteered to take on the secretarial role.
Robin is originally from Bedford and an ex WH Allen technical apprentice who spent four years at Bedford (1974-1978), completing his first year in the training centre before going on to complete many attachments around the works and drawing office. Like most Allen apprentices he remembers with affection manufacturing the test pieces and tools in the training centre and coupled his time with attending Mander College on block release to study for an ONC in Mechanical Engineering. On completion of his apprenticeship he left W H Allen and went to Queen Mary College, London to complete a first degree in Mechanical Engineering.
On graduating from University Robin joined Rolls-Royce plc in Derby, originally as a Technical Designer specialising in Thermal Systems. He went on to complete 32 years in the Engineering teams in Derby working on a variety of gas turbine engines such as the RB211-353E4, RB211-524G and the full range of Trent engines for Boeing and Airbus aircraft. For many years he worked in a variety of management roles in the Transmissions & Structures businesses, such as the Quality & Improvement Engineering Manager, before taking early retirement in 2013.
Robin has already shown great enthusiasm for the WHAEA secretary role and attended the March 2017 WHAEA Committee Meeting in Bedford with a number of new ideas to help keep our organisation active. He is looking forward to giving something back to WH Allen where he started his career and meeting as many association members as possible at the 2018 AGM on 6th October this year.
While we welcome Robin to the post of Secretary it is also worth mentioning we are keen to expand the social aspects of WHAEA further and are looking for someone to help with the organisation of AGM’s and other events in the future. If you feel you could provide support and take on the role of Social Secretary with WHAEA please do get in touch with one of the committee members. You would be a most welcome.
