A technical magazine written by Allen engineers for engineers and customers worldwide. The first issue was in January 1939 and then published every 3 months until Issue 41 in July 1960.

In November 1960 the Allen Engineering Review was updated but continued the same theme of technical engineering topics covering the full range of W H Allen & Sons’ products. The final issue No. 65 was in July 1968. It was superseded by Apex the Technical Journal of APE Ltd.

A vast number of marketing & publicity documents were issued by the company from its earliest days through to closure. To aid identification the documents are grouped as they were issued by product type.

directoryAllen Queens Engineering Works Magazine 1904 to 1939

Published annually in January from 1904-1939 and was sent to employees and ex-students. As well as detailing developments in the company’s products and in the world of engineering generally they include reports on the travels of the chairmen, personal matters for the staff including sporting events and hobbies etc.

directoryAPE apex The Technical Journal of APE Ltd 1969 to 1972

The Technical Journal of APE Ltd. superseded the Allen Engineering Review in February 1969. It ran for 11 copies before being superseded by APE Engineering in April 1973.

directoryAPE Engineering The Technical Journal 1973 to 1983

APE Engineering was launched in April 1973 as the new Technical Journal of Amalgamated Power Engineering Ltd. of Bedford. In March 1982 this was revised to the Technical Journal of NEI-APE Ltd. before finally ending with journal No. 39 in October 1983.

The APE Link magazine was introduced in September 1968 as a means to communicate with all 4300 APE office and works employees in all UK and Overseas APE centres. It ran until superseded by the NEI Link in the early 1980’s.
